Many people are afraid of success.
If that’s not you, then you don’t need to read this.
But a lot of people I’ve met and worked with are. They want to achieve their goal more than anything. But they’re terrified on some deep level to get there.
And yes, granted, there are many dragons in those deep caverns.
Guilt.
Disbelief.
Fear of who they’ll be, what their life will look like.
“I’m not good enough.”
“How can I possibly do something so beautiful, so precious when the world is doing something different and says something else is important?”
So they dawdle. They take course after course after course. They find a different garden to tend. Take care of other people’s businesses. Remodel their bathroom, even.
No matter what, they’ll find a Great (but different) project.
And they’ll think, some day, some time in the future.
But, my friend, the future is Now.
And I speak from all-too-familiar experience of avoiding what I most want.
I don’t know what it is about arriving, but it can be scary. It’s your fear of the future. The newness and unfamiliarity of it. Who you’ll be. How much more you’ll have to do. Being seen. Being known. And that can keep you from your ritual to move forwards to your goal.
So.
There are many aspects to this. But one I want to bring to you today is to begin living like you’ve already arrived at your goal.
Want to start a company? Believe and live and work and play like it’s already humming.
Want to write a book? Visualize and celebrate like it’s already been published and read by those you want read by. Create a cover and prop it on a shelf.
Want to own a home? Begin choosing your furniture and art.
Want to climb Mt. Whitney? See yourself there. Feel the wind against your face. Scan the gorgeous vistas.
When you visualize and live like you’ve already arrived, the future becomes a friend. Known. Familiar. Like comfortable loungewear.
Try it. And I’d love to hear how it’s going for you.
